JEWELRY CARE TIPS
HOW TO CARE FOR AND CLEAN YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
We know that when you get attached to a piece of jewelry, you don't take it off at all ;) If you do as we do when you fall in love with a piece of jewelry, watch out, it may lose its luster or get dark!
How to clean your silver jewelry and protect it from oxidation?
The reason for the darkening of the jewels is the oxidation, this is generated as a result of the contact of the jewels with acids. When your jewelry rubs against other bracelets or hair bands, some corrosion is produced, but without going any further, the medicines also alter the PH of our skin and that can make the silver jewelry lose its luster. It seems incredible, doesn't it?
Many of you will think that the jewels are dark if you keep them, and you will be right! Keeping jewelry in storage can also make it darker. To take care of your jewelry and keep it from getting dark, follow these tips:
- Store your jewelry in a cool and dry place, if it is also airtight, you will avoid oxidation from contact with oxygen.
- Avoid contact of your jewelry with chlorine, sweat, perfume or sea salt.
- Do not leave your jewelry piled up, as they can scratch each other. Also, be careful where you keep them, since wood contains acids. The best option is to keep them individually in their little boxes.
- Clean your silver jewelry once every two or three months so that it keeps its shine. Submerge the jewelry in a bowl with water and soap for ten minutes, rub them gently with a cotton cloth and dry them with a rag or cloth. They also sell specific silver cleaning products in supermarkets and specialized stores. And also, we sell a great silver care kit that you can add to cart when you are about to make your purchase.
HOW TO CARE FOR AND CLEAN YOUR GOLD JEWELRY
Gold is a resistant material in itself. It does not corrode or erode, but it can lose its shine due to soaps, grease or dust particles. To keep your jewelry in perfect condition and help it stay clean, follow these steps:
- Try to remove your jewelry before showering, swimming in the sea or pool and before using cleaning products. Soap and other chemicals can be abrasive and have a bleaching effect on gold.
- Treat your gold jewelry with care, even though it is a resistant material, it can be easily deformed so try to always take care of it as much as possible.
- Clean your jewelry when you notice it has darkened. The longer you take to clean them, the more they will deteriorate.
Tips for cleaning your gold jewelry:
First of all, make sure that other metals and gems will not be damaged by the cleaning process.
- Mix a few drops of soap or mild dishwashing liquid with warm water in a bowl.
- Put the jewelry in the container, without rubbing it, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- With a cotton cloth clean each jewel gently.
- Rinse each piece of gold jewelry with warm water, removing the soap and making sure the water is clean.
- Before returning your jewelry to its box, polish it with a cloth.
- You can use specific gold cleaners that you will find in supermarkets or specific stores.
HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR JEWELRY
Many times we complain that pendants are scratched, that untangling chains are hopeless or that jewelry gets dirty quickly... Pay attention because most of the time, it is because of bad organization of our jewelry box.
If you want your jewelry to last for many years, you just have to get used to storing it correctly. We give you some tips to organize your jewelry:
- Closing the chains: Closing chains, both necklaces and bracelets will prevent knots from forming or becoming entangled with other jewelry.
- Separate Rings: Rings with stones or figures tend to get damaged when they are joined with other rings. The best way to make them perfect is to have them in a special ring jewelry box or in your Singularu box.
- Earrings with their threads: The threads of the earrings are like socks, you always lose one! To avoid it, never leave the earrings loose. Besides, a thread that does not touch can cause the loss of your earring.
- Gold separated from the rest: In spite of the purity and strength of gold, it tends to darken easily so that even the oxygen itself makes it lose its shine. Keep your gold jewelry in cloth bags, wrapped in a cloth or in its original box.
- Away from wet places: Not only is the place where you keep your jewelry important, but also where you place your jewelry box is important. Wet places damage the jewelry considerably, so keep your jewelry in dry places and without sudden changes of temperature, always avoid leaving it in the bathroom!
